Let’s learn from the past! Share memories of an elder in your family or neighbourhood related to nature and the environment.
About the #BumiBelia Stories Competition
Calling all youth between ages 13 and 25! Join the #Bumibelia Stories Competition and share your stories about climate and the environment. Explore memories of the past, local environmental heroes in your community, and your visions of the future. Inspire all of us to do better for our shared planet.
All too often, the stories of climate change, nature and the environment are led by examples that may not be relevant to our own local context. Thus, our vision with the #BumiBelia Stories Competition is to enable our youth to discover and tell the stories that would inspire environmental and climate change actions within the local and cultural context of Malaysia.
Competition closes 31 October 2021
There are three competition categories to choose from: (1) Elder Stories, an audio interview competition, (2) Local Heroes, a video competition, and (3) Future Visions, a photo essay competition.

Malaysia, Truly Asia. Our country is indeed rich with culture and we’d like to see you showcase this diversity! Will your entry include different languages? Different dialects or cultures in Malaysia? Whether your story reflects Malaysia’s diverse ethnicities, languages, traditions, or even age groups, there’s always a bit of diversity that you can showcase in your entry!
#3 Creativity (30%)
What makes your story stand out from the rest? If you’re submitting an audio interview, what sounds can you incorporate to make things interesting? If you’re submitting a video, what shots can make your story stand out? If it’s a photo essay, what picture(s) can best capture the mood and story you wish to convey? There are a million ways to show your creativity, so make sure you wow us with yours!
#4 Quality (10%)
How well have you managed to capture those finer details in how you tell the story in your entry? As all great storytellers would say, if two people tell the same story, there is a good story and there is a great story. Whether it’s through the quality of the questions you ask in the interview, the engaging story you present in your video, the originality of your pictures, flair for language, and more — show us the best of your skills!
